    Something is popping

hi everyone, its been a while I might be grasping at straws here, but I had a dull pop that would only pop occasionally. I searched for weeks, but I finally discovered I had a broken motor mount. This was in an older CJ5 with a V8, so I don't how it will apply to yours.

How To Build a Tire carrier???

Hey, try the hinges off of an old, big satilite dish. Most are fairly heavy guage steel and they are greasable. Hell, you can probably find someone who just wants you to take it down and haul it a way. Make the mounting hinge into the tire carrier and the dish into a gazeebo for your wife.

    Mold/Mildue

I used to use boric acid with water to keep mold off the bathroom tile. It's this white powder you can get from the drug store. Mix a little with some water and wipe it on. It worked in the bathroom, but I don't know about a Jeep. Mine is all metal and rust; never worried about mold - except...

    modification posts or forum

Hey. I was looking through the posts to check other's homemade mods and was thinking that it would nice if we could have one place to post pics of our home made fabrications and modifications. It would like a clearing house for Jeep improvement pics and ideas. So, what do you think??

    Your favorite Non Comercial Mod's.

I cut off the rear frame cross member and replaced it with 3 inch square stock for a solid mount for tire carrier and such. I also cut out the rear body pannel of my 78 CJ5, welded up a frame and drop down tale gate, and bolted it it. So far, all have worked well.

    Manual Choke

There is a little plastic cover on the passenger side of the carb. Loosen the screws that hold down the metal retainer and you twist the cover back or forward depending on if you want it to be more open or more closed. There should be little marks on the cap to indicate more or less. I got sick...

Do you have a Soft top or a Hartop on your Jeep?

My soft top rotted off about 4 years ago; haven't had a chance to get a new one. We only get rain once a year (it seems) in southern NM so it doesn't matter too much. I have been wanting to try to make one out of aluminum. Haven't got around to trying yet. If someone has made their...

    New Axles!

I put in a Superior one piece a few years ago. I ruined a bearing, thought, before I decided to and have it pressed on for 10 bucks. I didn't have the spacing problems though. A few weeks ago, I was watching Two Guys Garage, and they were re- doing a rear axle. One of the guest that day was...

Bearings, balljoints, and cv's oh my

It's a fairly do-able. With some new parts and basic tools you can do it yourself; if I have done all that crap, anyone can. It's part of owning a Jeep. I usually keep a few parts like that around cuz they're always in need if replacing. Anyway it's a labor of love thing and it's quality time...

    motorcraft 2150 carb.

I've had that carb on my 78 CJ5 since I got it. It's worked well and is easy to rebuild - the rebuild kit is expensive, well for me anyway 29 bucks. There's no emission tests in NM, so can't help you there

    Very Sad Person Here

Where to find lift kits? Hang in there buddy. Good thing come to thoes who wait; it took me a bit more than a year and a half to get mine back togther after taking it all apart. Give it some time and do it right - you'll be back on the trails.

WHICH IS BETTER- old or new?

Hey 77, stir the pot all you want. Since you asked, the older CJ's are a sweet deal. You can cut'um, bash'um, then weld'um back together. They're not too expensive (well, at least they weren't) and, for the most part, ez to take a part and put back together. But, if someone is happy with his...

    Questions about a body lift

I put a one inch puck lift on my 78 CJ-5. Some of the main problems I encountered was having to cut off the old mounts - on older Jeeps they freeze and rust. After I cut them off, getting the nut out of the rail on the under body took a lot of elbow grease, but it's a labor of love. I don't...

    Rust Protection

We don't have too much trouble with rust in southern NM , but I have used POR 15 and rustoleum's rust primer. The rustoleum has already started rusting and the POR 15 is still as hard as a rock. I know it's costly, but so far the POR 15 has worked well for me. PS Groovy Halloween suff...

    Stubborn Torx bolts #%@&!!!

torx bolts suck, i mean they suck hard... even thought I thought I purged my jeep of all torx bolts, I still find them squirled away althought it takes some time, I have had a lot of success by using a combination of a torx driver or a large screwdriver and a vice grip depending on where...

    Busted a motor mount

Talk about noises - I was out, I mean way out in the mountians on a little two track trail. One of the wires from the starter relay fell down on my headers, burned through, and set off my starter. So here I was, going down a narrow, snowy, rutted grade and this loud grinding noise comes from...

    Busted a motor mount

I had a thumping on bumps for years before I decided to check the motor mount. The kicker was that my wife said, "why don't you check that little rubbery thing that holds the engine down?" I told her that I already checked it and it was something much more complicated - later on, I discovered it...

Anyone fab their own OS tire carrier / bumper?

Shreveport/Bosier City LA Althougth I havn't put the tirecarrier together yet, I scrounged the hinge off of an old satilite dish mount. It has a heavy, greasable hinge. All I have to do now is cut it back a bit, then put my tire carrier on it. I got tired of scratching the crap out of my arms...
