YJ Blue I am in the same boat as you or transmission if you will. Parts store told me 75w-90, my manual for the jeep says SAE75W-90 (API-GL5) grade. My biggest problem is I can't get the fill plug out. What kind of tool are you using? I can"t find anything to fit.

Traced it down it is definately the timing cover. Has anyone ever changed one? About how long does it take and what needs to come off before you get to the timing cover? What else should I change on an 89 4.2L with 75,000 miles.

Definitely not. I just replaced the oil pan gasket, which was missing the rear gasket area that goes over the rear main cap. It leaked pretty good at that time. But that area is all better. Yeah, cleaned the surfaces, rubbed them with a clean rag and used a nice bead of high temp black rtv sealant. Now I realize it is coming from the gaskets between the head and the block, and the head and the cylinder. Any thoughts on stopping it.
