The engine starts with the new SOLEX carb but will only run for a few seconds. I have seen other threads about the Solex carb crapping out right after starting. I'm sure it's a choke and adjustment issue but the carb didn't come with any instructions. Any ideas how to adjust it?

Yes, it is a brand new VIN tag. You can get them at www.kaiserwillys.com . I took it to my local trophy / award shop and had them engrave my VIN on it.

The engine has a nice thick coat of orange POR-15 engine enamel. The distributor could not get a good ground. Simple and embarrassing oversight.

I got the engine started and got it timed. Everything looks, sounds good. I wish I could upload the video of it running. Looking to install the new radiator in the next few days so I can run the engine for more than a few seconds.

    1956 CJ5 Build

Welcome back! I've been spending every spare second in the garage, much to my wife's annoyance. But the Army is moving us to Hawaii in June and the Willys needs to be fully functional to get on the boat.

    1956 CJ5 Build

Thanks for the research, but it looks like they do not have the correct panels. I need the front and rear quarter panels in one piece. They are widely available for flat fender jeeps but not the early CJ5's. One option is to get the panels for a 75-83 CJ5 and just cut down the extra lengnth in...

Thats great! Im glad your jeep is road worthy again. Sadly mine is not quite there. Body work is becoming a major issue. I need to replace both sides from front to back. Nobody makes replacement panels for "old" CJ5s.

Installed the following new items: Exhaust manifold, ignition coil, starter, and carb. I put a coat of POR-15 on the transmission /transfer case. The fuel pump has become very painful to install. Hopefully I will figure that out tomorrow.

It is indeed a 7/8 in nut. It is machined and impossible to find. I almost stripped it during the removal because it was so tight. I ended up needing a 4 foot cheater pipe to apply enough torque. Good luck with your project!

    1956 CJ5 Build

Installed the engine, new clutch, fly wheel, bell housing and rebuilt T-90/Spicer-18. So far so good, no major road blocks yet.

    1956 CJ5 Build

So I installed the fly wheel and attempted to drop the engine into the frame. However, the engine mounts no longer line up. What's up with that. It seems the engine mount on the drivers side is now too narrow to line up. How could they have moved? Any solutions for this? Thanks in advance. -Ian
