    Rear seat belt question

For an option and what I did long ago for VEX, I went to a junk yard and found a wrecked 1 ton Ford PU. Told the foreman there what I wanted and then unbolted them and installed in VEX. Nice setup. Cost was About $10. Just a thought-option. Robert

Rattle behind front left wheel, cant find source

If the rattle is a firm knocking, and you have had your hubs in free for a long time, yes, that is most likely it. For me, about 35 years ago, I learned this many Jeeps back and so, went with the CV joints at the TC, 1 ton DLs, and left the hubs in lock always. That was the end of that problem...

    CJ7 steering to easy?

I agree with these posts above. On VEX, I keep the ball joints, shims, and steering knuckles new and fresh. It runs straight and steers very very silky and easy. Even with its weight the way it is. But even the slightest wear of any of the components tends to allow the Jeep to wander, and not...

    gear selection

I understand this. Soon after I got VEX operational, about 19 years ago or so, I was Jeepin' on a rescue in eastern Montana for a buddy of mine stranded, and drowned out the pump on the ARBs. Same as you I think. I then ran a small hose up high enough along the windshield frame to assuage this...

    Pinion leak

Hey, Utah, Off topic but if you are in Sun Lakes, do you ever make it over here to Las Cruces? You got a place if you do, and we can go on down to the border to the Coralittos Reach, to teach the desert a lesson if you make it over here. Thank you in advance, Robert

    gear selection

I keep hearing this sort of report above and am learning. For me and VEX, the ARBs are 20 years old now and just plain rock and bullet proof as well. Interesting data and facts from everyone. Robert

Put a face with the name

Awesome. Is that the Sierra Buttes, in the one photo of the pinnacles. Fought fire in the region there for the R-5-USFS-Helitak, while in college. Too cool. Robert

Put a face with the name

You look good and the Jeep better. That is a cool shot. All the photos of everyone is really fun, but your Jeep on the beach is very cool, sir. Robert

have you guys seen this crap?!?

Odd photo at the top on page 1. Not being smart ass, but is that a Jeep Mark? If so, odd this......

Put a face with the name

Ok, went through this thread and what a great bunch of photos of our Jeep family, the thrill of putting a face to the names and rigs. Love it. After carefully debating with myself, then prayer, counseling, and then self delusion, I have carelessly decided to post a few of me. Forgive me, in...

Simple: put the baby in the Jeep. It'sa win-win.

    rocker panel trash

Looks good. On VEX, I glued the 3/16ths thick plate and bolted it 11 times on each side. Enough so I could use it to lift and jack the Jeep with it. And tough enough so when I come down on it, it does not wrinkle or bend-- or rather, it supports the entire weight of the Jeep on the side like...

    Dont buy Procomp tires!

A collection of interesting reports to be considered. My ProComps on VEX, 9.50x33" have a little lover a 100k on them , and seem to be wearing pretty well. VEX, my Jeep, is heavy, and that does not seem to have much effect on tire wear either. Odd, this difference in reports. Fun read though...

    towing a jeep

Again, read above my response. If towing any 4WD, make it a two wheel dr./trailer affair, in configuration. Thus, tie up the DLs at the diff ends and everything in neutral. Hope that is helpful, Robert

    towing a jeep

Having towed various Jeeps over the last 45 years, the rules are fairly simple. Trailer: Drive it up and park it. In gear, hubs in. Tie down. Towing: Neutral, disconnect DLs at the diff ends, tie up, suspended. That's it. Robert

    97 soft top replacement suggestions

Hi Randy, As a happy 45 year Jeep guy now, I have really been totally impressed with the Bestop option, as others have suggested. My latest is now 5 years old on my 1983 CJ-7, "VEX", and am thrilled with it. It also looks as it did the day I put it on. It is also bullet proof, as much as I am...

    smitty built winches

It seems they are all good. For the last 9 years have used and enjoyed the MM, 12,000. No rust, not weirdness and they draw little under load, even with heavy things and with all blocks used. Having them front and rear is also handy. They were $575 apiece for buying both together. The 1/2" line...
