I found somewhere a description on how to do this with a locking pto/choke cable and a few fittings. I did this to my yj last year (mine was locked in 4wd continuosly) I love it (as long as I remember to lock it in before getting stuck) it gives you 2wd low range which is all u need sometimes...

I guess I'm confused.... why do you have to take out your shifter to change the clutch? Or is there not enough room to slide the transmission back before you drop it out?

I run a posi lock front so in a different manner I have 2-lo (unlocked front diff) and like bounty hunter said it is very handy, I personaly love it

I put my hard top on for winter (I don't drive mine in winter) for storage purposes. But once spring hits the bimini top goes on till the next winter

I have a 93 with the 4 banger standard trans. the best thing I ever did was weld the rear, but I only drive mine when we go out to play on trails. I don't drive mine daily or I would invest in a locker. But boy what a diff off road cause I have a cable actuated front axle so I have 2wd low...

My wifes car is an 01 Impala, I don't think it is a rev limiter but it does shut down when you hit 115mph. Anything just under that and your ok(don't ask my how I know lol):D

Ok I have a question. I just picked up a 79 CJ7,I can't really see but do you have power steering? Mine does not and can't decide if I want to even bother off roading with out it.( I like my thumbs)
