Whoops I lied. 4.0 is 9 psi the others is 6.

Chrysler specs for the 4.0, 5.2, 5.9. Are min 6psi at idle. Which is plenty as volume is almost more important than pressure. After 4 psi that's when bearings are a loss and no oil can get to the top end.

And assuming its been run like that for some time. I can only imagine the beating the bearings and cylinder walls took.

Sounds like a carb problem. Floats to high or floats leaking down assuming you have a carb.

I can see if I can find a connector view at work. You can also try either way. See if the jeeps idle changes when at full stop. It should stay close to same.

Theoretically no. As long as the switch has no diodes in it. I would put it how it goes. Look at a connector view in service info for a better look at it.

Ya I bought a new tank for my xj for 165 bucks I would call some jobber sources. Napa. Bumper to bumper etc.

Oh the old 350 Chevys my second favorite motor. Lots can cause a clacking. A rod bearing going south. As stated flex plate bolts. Torque converter bolts. A cracked flex plate. A separated harmonic damper cutting into the timing cover. Worn distributor drive. Slapping timing chain.

If you have a bad mount and it's moving the linkage under torque it could. It never hurts to check the adjustment either

You just undo the axle nut and slide it out of the hub.

I usually leave the upper ball joint on. The spin the whole knuckle and hub around and two smashes with a hammer and out they come.
