just bought it a yard sale. I am wondering if the internal unit will work in my 78 AMC 20 rear end. It is suppose to be some type of a locker unit.

    4" lift

I would agree that it is a linkage problem. If I understand, everything worked fine before the lift. Angles change, things bind up. I would stear clear of that "jeep tech"

4 inch lift kit opinions wanted

Just courious, when you say YJ springs, are you saying install a fit not actually (designed) for the CJ5? As far as it lengthening the wheelbase, what does it do put the front wheels out further?

4 inch lift kit opinions wanted

Thanks for the input. I am down to the frame now. I cut the rusty body off and threw it away. It is going to be a ground up restoration. Pulled the 232 off the frame yesterday. It will be a built 258 with 4.0 heads when it goes back in.

    rusted body mounts

I have the body off of my CJ5 getting ready for a new body.8) The body mounts are pretty rusted. I am sure it used to be a round hole at the top. Now, it is just a open U shaped slot. Do they sell replacement body mounts that weld to the frame??:???:

    making a CJ5 into a CJ7 question

yea, It will take more time getting it ready for the frame work that the actual fab work. He said I would have to take everthing off the frame. Then he would set the frame up on his jig table. I would rather just find a good deal on a CJ5 since I would not gain any leg room.

    making a CJ5 into a CJ7 question

No offense taken here. I just did not want to come back later and the discussion has drifted off of what I asked. I just wanted to make it clear that I wanted to keep what I have. If I can find a CJ5 tub I'll just stick with that but if I run across a good deal on a CJ7 I just want to see what...

    making a CJ5 into a CJ7 question

I DO NOT want to get ride of or buy another frame. I want to keep my current CJ5 78 frame. It was the second auto I ever owned. (I am 45 now) I was just entertaining the thought if I found a good deal on a CJ7 tub, how much trouble would it be to lengthen it. I was hopping to find somebody that...

    making a CJ5 into a CJ7 question

Has anybody ever lengthened a CJ5 frame into the length of a CJ7? I am going to put a fiberglass body on my frame. I plan on having both the underside and the tub sprayed with a bedliner product, lineX, duraliner etc. Anyway, I have seen several used CJ7 tubs but hardly any CJ5 tubs. Plus, I am...

    What gears to run??

I had originally planed to do just that but, after doing some checking around, Going to solid axles and re-enforcing the housing/tubes will do just fine. Actually if you will look the dana 20 gears are bigger/beefier than the dana 44. Also, most all those hot little AMC car in the 60s and 70's...

    What gears to run??

I am going to rebuild my 78 CJ5. Right now I have it down to the frame. I threw the rusted body away. I plan on replacing the 232 straight 6 with a 401. I am keeping the AMC 20 and the Dana 30 front and rear differentials. I will make modifications to them though such as 1 piece axles, air...
