    Banged up skid plate

I agree, fix it as best you can. It's not like a lot of folks will be crawling under your jeep complaining the skid plate is bent ..... and you know if you replace it the new one will suffer the same fate sooner or later.

It can be embarrassing getting old

I used to drive an old work van that started leaking oil which is something you can't allow on a customer's driveway [especially new construction] At first I just used a 5 gallon bucket lid but as the leaking grew I carried a piece of cardboard in the van to slide under it when I parked. The...

Do you ever shake your head at some of your past work?

I often leave the excess cable if I don't think it will cause any issues - never know when you might reinstall it in a different vehicle and need the extra length. Way back when I've made low voltage connections using masking tape. As a painter I always had it on hand.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe Flat Tow Baseplates

A lot of welding shops can build one IF you don't need the DOT certification.

How to tell if a steering stabilizer is bad

For sure, I drove a lot of rattle traps when I was younger and never thought much about the slop until I got behind the wheel of a newer vehicle. I have a 1978 F-100 4x4 that I don't drive a lot. If I drive it everyday the steering feels ok but if I don't use it for a month .... oh boy!

What did you do to your Jeep today?

Last time I saw one that little/young I was coming up my mountain driveway. I could have opened my jeep door and scooped it up. Never saw the mama but knew it had to be close by.

    the blue angels

I think it's been 50 yrs since I've seen the blue angels but remember how awesome it was to watch them. You could tune in your radio to get a narrative of what they were doing ...... providing they weren't directly overhead.

What did you do to your Jeep today?

Same thing on my JK, above 2k rpm the mpg drops drastically. I also get better mpg if I don't use cruise control - it's too quick to downshift and too slow to upshift.

    Broke brake line...how to fix?

Your local auto parts stores sells brake lines in various lengths and diameters. Remove the old line and take it with you. They'll match up the diameter and fittings. You'll have to make all the bends yourself. It's best to use a brake line bending tool but I have used a rattle can - you don't...

    Left rear brake went kapow

Sounds like a wheel cylinder or brake line. It should become evident once you pull the wheel and drum. If you reuse the shoes you'll want to clean them with brake cleaner to remove the oil.

    Got some new jack stands.

I also lack concrete/pavement and often set a scrap piece of plywood under the stand to keep it from sinking.

    Got some new jack stands.

I've always wanted a pair of taller jack stands but they are pricey and the want is greater than the need. I have a 4 of the harbor freight 5 ton stands and 2 of their 3 ton. They are all the ratcheting type manufactured long before their recent stand failures. I also have couple of the cheap 2...

Third tail light conversion of the third kind

As far as I know they only work with the brake. Besides rewiring you'd have install a different bulb/holder to accept a 2 filament bulb.

    Merry christmas to all

As much as I don't want to admit it, my heat pump is nearing the end of it's life - it's in the neighborhood of 15 yrs old. Used to it never struggled until the temps got into the teens but now it struggles under 35°. Yrs ago I disconnected the heat strips as it's cheaper that way especially...

    Merry christmas to all

Our heat pump went back to working after it warmed up some. Repair man never showed up [or called] Back when wood was our main source of heat I cleaned the flue once a month during the winter. I intend to clean it again as soon as I get to feeling better. Can't believe the after effects of covid...

No crank, no power, no start after alt reg burned

When I make a mistake like that it makes me mad at me! But it does serve as a good reminder and you are less likely to make that mistake again. We all learn [or should] from our mistakes.
