    Latest Jeep Alarm/Anti-Theft Device

    3. The "Little Guy" weighs about 150 lbs - big bro and the girl weigh considerably more. I let 'em ride every once in while - they're real good. But if 500 lbs of dogs want to make a move . . . well, you know. Ususally if "we're" going to travel we take the truck or the van. But they're...

    Latest Jeep Alarm/Anti-Theft Device

I've yet to have the first problem with this device. Liked it so much that I got three. No wiring or codes to remember and installation is a "snap". Only downside is the drool and space requirements. Looks like they're ready to go Jeepin'! Good thing I hid the keys. Scott

    pre detonation

Get on the RPMs in 3rd gear shifting to 4th. If it's gonna rattle it will do it there. I agree with PASmokeater that it is unmistakable - once you associate the the actual "rattle' or "ping" with the term you will never forget it. If you're not sure, go ahead and advance it too far so you...

    Alternator Recommendations?

wierd jeeps Mean Green. 140 amps w/internal voltage regulator. Heavy duty workhorse with no modifications needed. I have it and the Mean Green starter on my CJ7. Very satisfied with both. Scott

Could someone post a picture of their ignition switch (cj7)

I hope it fires right up for you on the install. The switch was fresh on my mind because I had just put one in a GMC Safari. Way too much work for such a simple switch! Scott

Weber Carb Help - Runs Too Rich

Kilpatrick Stockton Building I have to screw my air/fuel mix IN. I really think I need smaller jets. I am investing in a Weber book and hope to solve some questions. As far as the timing goes, I was at 9 BTC before I did the TFI upgrade. Nobody was more surprised than me at the amount of...

Weber Carb Help - Runs Too Rich

Right. I mean a Weber that was installed out of the box - no jet changes or modifications. At 13 BTC I get the strongest vacuum and run without the first "ping". As I get closer to 15 it starts pinging on hard accelerations. Scott

    258 4.2L and 77 CJ5 Tires

Not a problem. Plenty of people here have performed the upgrade so there is a lot of help to be found. Scott

    258 4.2L and 77 CJ5 Tires

Here is a link to the original article http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/electrical/jn-ignition99/ I also posted the piece below a few days ago- I finally did the Nutter Bypass. I had already converted to the TFI upgrade, removed emissions and installed a Weber so the ECM wasn't doing anything...

baseball size lump in back tire

Sounds like you had a belt separate. Inner wall trying to become part of the outer wall now :( Scott

    258 4.2L and 77 CJ5 Tires

You may want to consider the TFI upgrade and the Nutter bypass on your 258. It's cheap and gives you more power through gains in RPM and a hotter spark. Scott

    tfi upgrade

A lot of the older stock ignition systems did not deliver enough spark to use the entire stroke. With a hotter spark you can take advantage of the FULL stroke by advancing the timing. If you advance too far you lose power through predetonation (ping). When you retard the ignition you are...

    Crank Seal Ventilation Problem?

Your valve cover has 3 holes in it - First is your Oil fill. Next is your PCV valve. All the way in the back is the Crankcase Vent. I replaced mine with a breather element - no hose.

    Steering Gear Box Rebuild

I think I'll give it a try. Worst case I still need a gear box. What have I got to lose? Scott

Weber Carb Help - Runs Too Rich

I have a stock Weber 32/36 on a 258 that continually runs rich. It shows rich on my air/fuel gauge and with a voltmeter (.8 volts). I am on the verge of stumbling with the air fuel mix - in other words, I have leaned it out as far as I can. Sooty tailpipe and black "puffs" on startup. Here...

    tfi upgrade

A "hotter" spark can begin the combustion sooner by advancing the timing, and then burning throughout the piston stroke giving you more power. Because your spark is hotter you can burn sooner and LONGER. No additional wear on the engine - it should actually run better - cleaner. Gas mileage...

    tfi upgrade

It's not so much that you "need" to adjust the timing but with the gain of a hotter spark after the upgrade you are "able" to advance the timing, giving you more power and higher RPMs. Scott

Could someone post a picture of their ignition switch (cj7)

Sounds like you have the wrong switch. I believe that the switch in the middle of your picture is for a standard column. This info is for a standard column - tilt would be exactly opposite. The slider positions are from left to right - ACCESSORY OFF-LOCK OFF ON START All positions have a...

    tfi upgrade

Found a copy of it - I finally did the Nutter Bypass. I had already converted to the TFI upgrade, removed emissions and installed a Weber so the ECM wasn't doing anything. For me it only involved making the disconnect of the orange and purple wires at the ECM and routing directly to the...
