    95 YJ restore

I got some pictures the other day. belly skid trans mount was just about gone, so I redid the 2nd skin with some 3/16"...and the saddles are on. I changed the R side, but while it's down this far, I have to make a case spreader and change front L axle seal... then at last parts can start to...

    95 YJ restore

I crested one mountain peak... wallowed in the rust ugly for too long but spanked it proper. I have the frame sealed, axles were primed in a POR 15 clone already so I got some Massey Ferguson grey machinery enamel on the big parts. I had to weld up a new transmission mount on the belly pan...

they're mezmorized in techno-land by the gauges and lights dancing on the dashboard. older jeeps just check the speedometer needle wobble now and then and have nothing else to do in between hand flourishes

WTF did I get myself into...lol

<I spent the last few days with a saw cutting the body off the ZJ. [quiver] <I have been tring to research this transplant but I get all kinds of yes and no's for everything. the universe is indeed a vast and wond'rous place <YJ came with a body lift. I hate body lifts. there's a rear...

    This BUCKIN' Jeep!!

Okay.. so shower me with your words of wisdom. ask and ye shall receive. you have electrical gremlins... they hide in the grounds a lot. you either have to chase them out yourself with knowledge and skill, or pay a human who can. assume flirty eye helpless girly behaviors in your local...

    4cylinder or 6cylinder

the world reshuffled when Kaiser put factory V-6s in the CJ5s because shade tree guys were stuffing 283s in 2As & 3Bs... virtue divided into magazine selling Peter Pan toys and the original military spec 1/4 ton recon light truck water cooled manually operated purists ready for the next...

How the heck to remove both shift levers?

this is 95 YJ...if it's the same, the square hi/lo lever was a push on with plastic keepers that snap in place...the plastic is brittle so likely it's buy a fresh coupling piece. the shift lever was a snap ring.

    95 YJ restore

this restore is likely a graduation gift for the daughter in the long run. I'm not crazy about the overall quality...setting up the shackle mounts, I found the frame bends are hap hazard throwing all sense of precision square out the window. earlier in this thread you see the bus... this YJ is...

    Uh....oh....!

sorry about my newbie questions. we all start out at square one. tweak the terminology... "couldn't get it to turn over. It would crank, but just not start. Is it possible to try too many times to start the jeep. Now it won't even crank." "turn over" is the same as crank... means the...

    Pa. Ride against door law

the only Pa law I'm aware of has to do with rear view mirrors...if the center one view is blocked, then you have to have side mirrors a la truck. lack of compliant mirrors can get you a legit ticket. all the old soft top CJs were doorless. I suspect your cop may be prouder of that badge and...

    95 YJ restore

another picture in progress...rear shackle mounts salvaged the sleeves with a hole saw. boxes are 3/8" X 2 bottom I had laying around & side plates are 3/16" X 3" flat from tractor supply. I'm extending some meat beyond the original rear crossmember for draw bar, spare tire mount, ect... plus I...

    97 Sahara problems

lift and track bar jive as already mentioned. these frames are light...looks like 1/8" at best...part of the "solid" is in the mounted body. do the above eyeball check, but run strings...if the body is bowed, you'll see it.

How many KM's is to many when buying a used TJ

I think rust is the deal breaker more then miles. all those engines have the breather piped into the intake for emissions... and that dumps carbon to prematurely kill the engine (my valve seats were shot at 122K... intakes were usable, but it took 4 exhaust valves). after the engine rebuild...

    Catalytic Converter 1991 YJ 4.0

mid 90s had a cat recall with replacement...(the replacement rusts out too) check to see if yours was covered under the recall. if the Gods are smiling, you could win a free-bee >Where does it hook up to on the engine? my guess is an intake pre heat? if so, then it's for high temp complete...

not sure ridge is right. sounds more like a worn down flat left a ridge remaining... but in that case, lining it up was probably good.

    overheating

a few of my 95 radiator fins rotted out by 95K and ran hot. it was awhile ago, but I think I tried a lower temp thermostat before replacing the radiator... that fixed it. (right temp thermostat is probably better for emissions) I assume you have the ducting shields intact so the fan acts...

Jeep Oil Pressure is '0' at idle.

sounds like a dirty oil pressure bypass sticking open. for the most part, anything serious mechanical wouldn't correct like that. there's a BS bypass in the oil filter, so it might just be an oil change...tho likely you have sludgey innerds... do lots of oil changes like you have a new...

    Head rebuilding...101

I ran into that puzzle myself on a factory built 4 and the rocker groove angles were'nt 4 & 4... it was 3 & 5, so I figured they didn't care enough to match them, or they would have. X-ing the grooves would imply a full wipe delivery... I suspect as long as they wiggle in a puddle it gets an...

    The OFFICIAL Random thread

Dateline Outer Banks: UPI reported this week yet another jeep was found idling floorboard deep in salt water... "the radio was on" said an unnamed resident on a beer run..."we siphoned the gas and took the gearshift knob in accordance with maritime salvage rules" stating the frame showed signs...
