    89yj steering pump help

Just did the same with my 89 YJ but it has a serpentine belt. I found a front bracket in a salvage yard but had to make a rear bracket. I had a idler pulley and used the post on that to hang the new bracket. The pump I used was off a newer YJ which was supported by through bolts into the...

Exhausted CJ-7 - Stupid Question of the Week

I had trouble finding the filler hose. Eventually used a combination of straight fuel hose, copper water fittings and hose clamps. If memory serves it was 1 inch hose and a couple of 45 degree copper fittings. I did see the hose later on line but mines a little earlier being a 89YJ.

    89YJ power steering Help

No BS the manifolds are very different. I added the injection with a Mopar kit so it is not a stock manifold the mounting holes for the pump are not there. I have figured out how to do the change to power steering and now have the necessary parts but will have to make a rear bracket to help...

Thanks for the information. I picked up the parts and will swap and add as soon as time permits. The project looks straight forward so I will probably break something off.

    Power Steering

I've had the Jeep for a long time and the party I purchased from was a related so I don't believe it is a transplant. I suppose it could have been, if so it was sure clean but I really think I would have been told, it would not have made a difference. I do know it was build late in the model...

    Power Steering

Bounty Hunter, I must have an odd ball 89YJ because it has serpentine belts. I have found a front bracket that bolts on and lines up perfectly with the belt. The pump will replace the present idler pulley on the left side of the engine. From looking at later year 4.0 straight 6 engines the...

    Power Steering

I believe the bracket came out of a Cherokee with a straight 6/4.0 it does match up with pulleys and attachment bolts. Will that pump work with the 89 power steering box without blowing seals or not providing enough pressure? Thanks

    Power Steering

I found a 96 front pump bracket that will bolt up to my 89YJ and I'm comfortable make a support bracket for the rear. My question is can I run a 96 power steering pump to a 89 steering box without causing any problems? Thanks for any help.

    89YJ power steering Help

What I have is an 89YJ 4.2 with 95 fuel injection and stock suspension. I want to add power steering. I’m being told I can’t mount the pump because the intake manifold does not have any means to bolt in the pump or brackets. I have idler pulleys on top left and right. I can’t be the...

    Mopar Injection

I'm having my 89/258 gone through adding headers/cam and the MOPAR injection. The PVC valve that came with the injection is too large for the opening on the valve cover. I'm hoping to find someone who has over come this problem who can give us a remedy. It appears the 4.0 valve cover will not...

You may be able the check the timing by moving #1 to top and seeing where the timing marks are, must be on the compression stroke.

    Steering switch

I'm going from manual steering to power steering. Will the power steering gear box bolt up to the frame or does it require a bracket and will the steering shaft (term?) bolt up to the new power steering gear box? Also, any thoughts on where to pick up a bracket for the power steering pump...

    Engine work

I'm going through my 89YJ and looking for input. Here is what I'm thinking, what would you do, what brands would you use, where would you go for the parts and have I missed anything? 4.2 long block with Howell fuel injection, headers/new exhaust. I'm in California and need to keep it smog...

    Engine Replacement?

Due to a bazaar set of circumstances I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty engine which I was thinking of swapping out in my 89YJ. The engine was going to be put into a Liberty and I do not have the wiring, computer, exhaust or transmission so I think it would be easier just to rebuild the I6. Is my...

    YJ frame under a CJ

I'm new and no nothing of the frame construction of your 84 but wondering if it would not be possible to cut the bad section out and replace it with a donor? It would take someone with some real welding skills and some engineering so it had the same strength or better.
