    Tow Hook Removal

I was told that torx was designed to reliably feed/engage in automatic screw feeders on the assembly line. Most of the larger torx bolts have some form of locktite on them that gives way when you heat them up. It also is a good idea to use 1/2"drive torx sockets and long ratchet/breaker bar

Sudden drop MPG on 02 Liberty!

I've never heard of any sludge problems on the 3.7 My wifes 03 has 130,000 miles on the original engine and while I've always used mobil1 and napa gold filters, I never can keep up with the oil changes with the miles she racks up. Best is 5000 miles and once went 11,000 miles between changes...

Jeep was stuck now running funny

Wow...Thats gonna be hard to diagnose over the innerweb. You have a few seemingly unrelated symptoms. Nothing I can think of that would cause the check engine light to come on would make it hard to shift into second gear. The only scenario I can dream up would be that either going over that...

    Motor won't idle

It may be as simple as cleaning the IACV.(Idle Air Control Valve) You just described the classic symptoms to a "T" It is that little black "can" sticking out of the pass. side rear of the throttlebody(IIRC) Usually two torx screws and it pulls out. It has a cone shaped pintle that will be...

    Are steel wheels evil?

Those scalloped edges have a little bit to do with reducing road noise and alot to do with clawing your way out of deep ruts before you get hung up on your diffs Narrow tread does have the advantage in most real world offroad situations. It usually comes up short in webwheeling,though.(And...

    Are steel wheels evil?

Maybe they meant buying aftermarket steel wheels. Thay tend to be crap compared to factory. Thinner, more easily bent and chintzy coating start to rust sooner. Hard to beat a factory wheel. Steel or aluminum. I know everbody has this fetish for HAVING to get different wheels. If you really...

Can't decide which jeep to get. Opinion please.

I've had enough jeeps to know that if you want to be able to carry stuff, the XJ is the way to go. They are cheaper than TJs and less likely to have been used offroad or abused. They can wheel as good as any jeep and you can sleep in it

    First Jeep

If you got any hills to climb in your area, the 2.5L will leave you wanting more. Thats why you see so many for sale. They are anemic with stock tires and the bigger you go the worse it gets. If you end up having to get a four cylinder because the sixes are to spendy or non-existant, go with...

    question about moving my mirrors

If I remember correctly, those bolts are held in with locktite and rust. First time I tried to remove one, I snapped a SNAP-ON torx off flush in the star. After I managed to get one out and saw the locktite, I used a torch on all the rest to weaken the goop and after they were cool, left them...

    Hook vs. Loop

A strap with hooks on the end is a TOW strap. Made just to pull another rolling vehicle. Recovery straps only have the loop ends for the aforementioned reasons.

    Long time jeeper in AZ

Hey there from the Phoenix metro area! Got the jeep bug back in 1977 when my older second cousin got a Levi Edition CJ5 and took all us kids for a ride in it. I've had a jeep of my own almost continuously since my first one in 1987. A 72 CJ5 V8. Since then I have learned not to mod the...

about to buy tires.........one last question..

My observations over the years show that every tire size you go over 31" get you closer to eventually selling it because it becomes more of a dog to drive. One mod begets another till you go broke and/or hate to drive it on a daily basis. Resist the temptation.

    question 90 wrangler

I had an 87 that had a CJ7 hard top on it and you had to close it carefully or the tailgate and hatch would interfere with each other. Does your hardtop have the long black vents up the rear corners and an all glass hatch(YJ)? or no vents and metal framed hatch(CJ) If you do have the correct...
