    TJ Towing Capacity

The most I've moved with my TJ is 2000 pounds. The trailer weighs around 500 (maybe 700) pounds and I bring home 2000 pounds of wood pellets at a time with it. BUT... I only put 1500 pounds on the trailer, loading it so that I have a couple hundred pounds on the pintle hitch (I load it...

    Wheel Bearing Replacement Problem

I assume you are talking about the snap ring that holds the axle shaft at the center of the hub??? The one that you slide over the splines on its way to the groove? If so, try pushing the axle shaft assy outward by prying gently on the knuckle U-joint. There is a fair amount of play in there...

    75 cj5 electrical issue

The thing you found under the dash looks like a crossover or filter for the radio (probably not stock). The resistor is in the side of the heater box (look for a tan bakelite or phenolic flat thing on the outside of the heater box near the passenger side. It should have at least three wires...

    99 Tj still wont start

We'll have to wait for Mikey to chime in here but I remember getting all annoyed some time ago when I heard that the air bag computer talks to the engine computer during a crash and tells it to shut down the engine and not to start ever again. I heard something about getting a new air bag...

amc 20 rear end axle fell out

That's held in by a press fit between the axle bearing and the shaft. I've never seen a pressed on bearing "fall off". Did the bearing fall apart? If the rollers all disintergrated and fell out maybe it's possible the shaft came out with the bearing collar still on it? How long is the shaft...

    Child car seats

Man things have changed... Dad used to just throw us 5 kids in the back of the old CJ5 (well, one in the front and four in the back - we'd switch off riding shotgun) . We'd sit on the steel fender boxes, two on each side and have a blast. No seat belts, no booster seats. In the winter...

    75 cj5 electrical issue

BTW... You do see that the right angle connector on your starter relay is barely on there. It will get replaced when you do the new harness BUT in the mean time it could cause some intermittant grief. Best of luck with the Jeep - keep us all posted on your progress -John

    75 cj5 electrical issue

I think your old blower motor is out of something else. If I recall, my CJ only had two wires going to the motor. There is a resistor on the heater box that "makes" the speeds. You should find that some of the wires from the switch go to the resistor. If you are changing the entire wiring...

    Diesel powered tj

Awsome!! That's a lot of iron to stuff into a TJ. You even got an intercooler into it. I like the dash. This must be off road only - or you don't need to pass emissions where you are. I bet you get great MPG. Yeah, what axles ARE you running? I would think the 4BT can easily grenade the...

    axle question

We had an old Cherokee ( XJ ) for a while, a 1984 I think, and it had the CV style shafts in it. That was the only XJ I ever saw with them. It was a four banger with a std transmission and the cool AMC badge on the rear. -John

adding an oil filter to L134?

Hey Stan... Sorry it took me a bit to get down to the M38 - I sure miss driving that little Jeep (it's in storage right now:( ) . I see that the oil return line from the filter connects to the top edge of the timing chain cover - slightly right of center. The oil supply line runs down in...

Where do they hide the signal flasher?

My 05 TJ is the LAST new vehicle I will ever buy. WHAT was so wrong with the old lighting equipment that required such a ludicrous, over engineered and unserviceable mess. It's a good thing we have Mikey and his expertise or the JK guys would be totally out of luck. -John

adding an oil filter to L134?

Hi Stan, Yes, the bypass type must have a flow limiting orifice so that you don't lose too much pressure. I'm not sure where that restriction is located but I would check it out before installing the kit. The directions hopefuly will say something about the restriction - some units may even...

adding an oil filter to L134?

Hi Stan, Sorry, I've been away from the forum for a bit... The modern bypass filters that I've seen are cartridge type and are available in several sizes. Some of these use paper towel or even toilet paper rolls for filters. I don't know if I like that or not but as long as there is some...

adding an oil filter to L134?

A spin on filter will not do much since it is more like a screen than a filter. The spin on filters on modern engines go in line right after the pump and trap only the biggest particles. The old engines, like the L head usually had a bypass filter. The bypass filter takes a controlled amout...

    Windsheid wiper sloppy?

Good job fixing the dumb design. My 05 lost one of the rubber boots on the pivot when it was less than two years old. The boot split off the pivot and fell into the cowl. Of course, there is no easy way to put a new boot on (cut and weld) . I assume that the joint will fail sooner than later...
