    Single DIN stereo

The stereo I have is 61/2" deep and I have 51/2" from the dash panel to the defrost hose. I suppose I could squeeze the hose down a bit and make it work. I'll be looking at it this weekend.

    Jeep Build

I finally got my winch installed and I'm still adding stuff. Got some LED lights and nerf bars to put on soon. I don't guess we ever really finish 'em do we!!

    Single DIN stereo

I bought a pioneer single din stereo to install in my '80 CJ7. I knew I would have to cut the dash and build a bracket to hold it. After receiving the radio from Amazon I took some measurements and found that I couldn't mount it in the factory slot because it will hit my defrost hose knocking...

    Heater Fan Motor

I saw a post a while back discussing replacement of the heater fan motor in cj's with one from a '73 GMC Blazer. I replaced mine in my CJ7 and wow, I now have a turbo charged heater/defroster. Thanks to whoever passed that info along. I would recommend this upgrade to anyone who hasn't already...

    Roll bar

I agree with xt master, the roll bar is designed to protect the occupants in the event of a roll over. I would not alter it in any way. Mine has torx head bolts that hold it in the tub. Find some good penetrating oil and spray them down from top and bottom let sit overnight. Purchase a good set...

    AMC20 carrier bearing preload

The carrier bearing preload for an AMC20 is given as .008". Assuming that pinion depth, backlash and wear pattern are correct, would I add .008 shims or .004 on both sides to accomplish preload? I get that all afore mentioned measurements need to be taken with the correct shims on each side. I...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

Hey guys thanks for all your help! I have completed the T176 rebuild and installation. Installing the master rebuild kit was actually quite easy, but the right tools are a necessity. I was able to use several of your suggestions and the job went nicely. I test drove this afternoon it shifted...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

I put a new clutch in it with the new engine. I should have rebuilt the transmission after I finished the frame, but the PO had told me he already had the transmission rebuilt. My mistake, I took him at his word.

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

I wanted give an update on my progress. I pulled the transmission Thursday. You all were right it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Although the three bolts on top of the bell housing were very hard to get too. They will be a bear to get started and torqued on the installation. Thanks for all...

Any tips for getting duct tape residue off paint?

Charcoal lighter fluid on a rag works very well and won't damage paint. Use warm soapy water (Dish Washing Soap) to wash the lighter fluid off.

    Jeep Build

Well all, this has been great project, and I have enjoyed every minute spent doing it. I loved the hard work and challenges of this project. My wife of 30 yrs was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease shortly after I got started and it fueled my desire to finish it up. The main reason for buying...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

greg92jeepxj I found a transmission jack to borrow from a guy. I have a floor jack as well as a couple of hydraulic bottle jacks and access to 3 ton overhead crane. I think I am going to do this thing like you mentioned in your previous post, by separating the transmission from the bell...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

Thanks for the info Guys. This is all good stuff and discussions with people who have already done projects you are about to take on is always beneficial. Everything in this jeep is new. I screwed up royally!! Man that hurt! I bought this jeep a couple of years ago and did a frame up restore...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

Yes I have thought about the line up going back in too. No doubt that will be the most difficult part. I have found that it's always easier to tear things apart than put them back together! Time and patience is all we need and most of the time I'm a little short on both. I got a quote today...

    Pulling a T176 and Dana 300

1980 CJ7 I can't shift my T176 into second from 1st, it just grinds. I ordered a master repair kit plus all shift forks from Morris 4x4. I had intended on pulling the trans and rebuilding it myself. I am not worried about rebuilding it but I am concerned about pulling it. Is this something a...

Restoring an old CJ - where to start?

Gthor92 here are my thoughts. This was your grandfathers jeep and you want to restore it to something that he would be proud of. I would do a thorough inspection and make notes of everything that needs repaired. Then start prioritizing. You already know the wiring, hoses, belts and tires are...

    Using 2wd with hubs locked

Thanks guys for confirming what I thought and I will keep in mind that the two piece axles are the weak point on the amc20. I will eventually get around to installing Yukon one piece axles.

    79 CJ7 - The Beginning

I have a 1980 cj7 that I am restoring. If the steering shaft is the same on the 79&80 models, you will have to remove the nut and bolt out of the clamps on each end. The sline on the shaft has a dish milled out that the bolt fits through.
