IMO....ANYTHING.....no matter what it is, towing strap or recovery strap, is better than a chain. What ever you use, make sure it is not a chain. If it is straps of sorts, make sure to stay clear of hooks, and don't rig up to recievers (Reese Hitch). Throw a floor mat or two (hence Glenn...

My first guess would be a vaccum leak. Get some starting fluid and spritz around here and there following ALL vac. lines with the engine running. If you hear the rpm's pick up, investigate that area further. Other possibilty could be a dirty throttle body. Maybe someone else has some thoughts.
