I have an 80 CJ7 that is a rust bucket. It has the 258 6 cyl and a 4 spd. Does anyone know offhand what model 4 spd and T-case is under it? Or will I have to crawl under there and find some numbers? If it is a T176/D300 I am considering swapping them for my T150/D20 in my 78 CJ7 with 304. Thanks

Well I did take off the inspection cover and it still made the awful noise. It only does it when it fires up for about a second or two, not when it is cranking. Then it goes away.
