    1989 cherokee ignition problems

I'd do an ohm test on the CPS, 200 +/- 75 ohms. Scrub out the connectors with a good contact spray and clean the grounds at the dipstick holder. Make sure you reconnected the ground from the rear of the head to the firewall.

    Rattle snakes anyone?

I know what you mean, every time I hear one rattle MY snake brain says run. One got me when I was clearing brush, didn't even latch on, just grazed my knuckle through the glove. My hand and forearm swelled up so big the skin cracked. Some gland in my armpit swelled up to the size of a Lemon...

    Rattle snakes anyone?

They actually don't taste too bad, like chicken only bit chewy. My brother had a girlfriend that was a little too city and stuck up. We invited her over for a party and served rattlesnake appetizers. Looked and tasted like chunks of chicken with a toothpick stuck in them. She really should...

    Two questions

In my experience if the MAP starts to fail, the motor idles poorly and way rich. I'm not real familiar with your year XJ, I've got an 88 and a 96. First thing I'd do is unhook the battery for awhile and then take it for a drive. I avoid extended idle when the computer is rebooting (seems to work...

    Two questions

14 is the MAP sensor, but my list (for 95) says if this code is thrown the CEL will remain lighted and not be intermittent. 34 is (I'm guessing here) in the speed control circuit, my guess is cruise control and my list says this can be an intermittent CEL light. I'd recheck the blinks, I almost...

    Two questions

Here is one list, it may not be the best. The code list has changed some from year to year, some codes have been added or a newer list my show possible codes your PCM doesn't record. How to get the codes: I'm pretty sure your 92 has the CEL code function. I sometimes have to try a few times...

    Two questions

My voltage tests 14+ volts at the battery poles with the motor running and my in dash volt meter reads normally about the same as yours. My assumption is my in dash volt meter is a liar. Intermittent low voltage can likely cause the CEL to light up intermittently. I'd pay attention to when it...

    Taillight and Dash Lamp Out..

A couple of things to check out. The path for the dash lights (dimmer) is through the tailights fuse, then through the instru fuse. If the taillight fuse goes, so will the instru lights. The dimmer in the headlight switch has a tendency to screw up and heat up the wiring, how does your...

    Intermit Ignition Failure

I've had the same thing happen for any number of reasons. Had the IAC stick either hot or cold. I just spray some penetrating oil down the "in" side orifice for the IAC and repeat a few times while the motor is running (word to the wise, make sure the spray tube is on the spray oil nozzle...

1993 ZJ, stock lug nut torque ? and what is bolt pattern ?

I really don't know what the owners manual recommends for lug nut torque. I've been tightening mine to 90 ft lbs. for over twenty years with no issues yet. I tighten in two stages and never two lug nuts in a row (same side), I use a cross pattern. Then after a week or so I retighten them...

    90 cherokee engine

As far as I know 87-90 (Renix), 91-95 (a few 96 1/2) OBD 1. With some minor changes in the Renix harness over the years, the components and sensors stayed mostly the same. A few more changes in the OBD 1 series in the harnesses and some components over the years (If I remember correctly in 93...

    Any fumes from Herculiner?

I've used Hammerite paint in many applications. There are some fumes, but I'm also paint sensitive and never had any real issues with it. If you can find it, they also have a water based paint that dries quick, ideal for painting in the winter, when other coatings may take days to dry. It's...

How replace brushes on alternator, Z3/4L ?

First off you have to figure out what alternator you have. Likely the Nippon Denso, should be a tag on there somewhere. What year? http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/rebuilding-nippon-denso-alternator-00-01-56041822aa-835511/

Cherokee 94 Misfiring ECU/injctor unsolvable problem

Most of it is just understanding the basics (volts, amps and resistance) and sticking with it until you find the problem, after awhile instinct usually kicks in and things get easier. I've found a whole system (or sub system) approach to be more fruitful in most cases, don't get hung up on the...

Cherokee 94 Misfiring ECU/injctor unsolvable problem

May first guess was the same as Bounty Hunter, you may be getting poor signal at the CPS. A quick test is to check the signal voltage at the sync sensor, if it's low it is usually an indicator of a partial short in the CPS. Something to keep in mind, is the injectors are always powered when...

    bad leafs?

If you go the add a leaf route, a full length add a leaf (home made or maybe RE) works better. A new set of leafs isn't all that expensive, though getting the old end bolts (especially the fronts) out can be a giant pain. U-bolts and center pins are fairly easy (and cheap) to replace, cut the...

Weird noise from under center consoleish area

I've had all sorts of sounds come from that area, sound travels, the last time it was my right front hub. Time before that it was the front bearing in my transfer (which took years to actually die). Various clunks, mostly from the exhaust contacting the transmission cross brace. Many sounds...
