    Earl Scheib

Yep, Earl started out in 1937 in Los Angeles, by 1975 even had shops in England and Germany. This was (is) truly a drive thru paint shop where they demand their painters paint up to 5 cars per day. Tons of horror stories about the quality of their paint jobs. I had a buddy that took his...

    Paint my top?

I wonder if something like DupliColor's Truck Bed Coating would work? Go over the OEM paint with red scuff pads then wash it down real good with something like Simple Green and let it dry, then paint. It is a black vinyl polymer so it would hold up to weather real well, bird crap wouldn't...

    Earl Scheib

Geez, I guess prices have really gone up in two years! Of course I also remember when Earl would cry, "I'll paint any car for $19.95!"

    It's official, I win!

Hey, thanks guys. I'm pretty stoked about this. I've been following the progess on the SwitchBlade since it was first announced back in September '09 and think we're going to see a pretty unique product. From what I hear it will probably be another 4-6 weeks before I actually receive the...

    Hardtop back glass

Have you tried any local Auto Glass shops? It's just flat tempered safety glass. I've had the windshield on my TJ replaced twice now for right at $200, including parts and labor.

What's the best looking steering stabilizer?

Buy what you want and rattle can it any color you want. It's going to get chipped up anyway so if your worried about the color touch-ups are in easy.

    The Dreaded Wabble?

This isn't going to solve your problem but will give you a better handle on what's going on... HowStuffWorks "How Differentials Work" A little long but worth the read.

    Transfer Case fluid

Ditto on the Automatic Trans Fluid. Synthetic is IMO a better choice, albeit more expensive but it should also last longer before it breaks down. I belive the NP231 should take 3.2 pints.

New YJ owner with paint question

That fresh, factory look of that faded, funky color you have now is Khaki Metallic, Color Code HJ5/BL. This is according to the paint chart I found at: Colors I've purchased touch-up paints from them before and was real satisfied with the paint match and quality. However, this may be...

    engine painting??

The most important thing about surface prep is getting every little stinkin' bit of grease and other contaminants off before spraying anything. If the OEM paint is still on the block you should be able to use a red Scotch Brite pad to scuff the surface then paint directly over it. If you done...

    recovery

So, to sum this up (because I got a little confused reading through this thread), we have basically two types of straps: (1) Tow straps, and (2) Recovery/Snatch straps. They are kind of like talking about apples and oranges. The essential difference between the two is how they perform under...

    tire question

What are you driving (i.e.: Year and Model), and what tires do you have on now? What kind of tread pattern do they have (street/touring, winter, All Terrains, Mud Terrains, etc.)? I think the following info is pretty much correct...The stock JK will easily fit 32" tires with no rubbing with...

    newbe please help

Amazing. These things are nearly impossible to figure out without a good Scan Tool. I've got about 67K on my '03 and that's one component that has not been replaced yet. Maybe others will chime in so we can get a better picture of their failure rate.

    newbe please help

As usual, Mikey is right on. Here's a bit of information overload taken from the '03 Service Manual that may give you a better idea of what's happening and why... OPERATION The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) contains a Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver and a microprocessor. The SKIM...

2003 Wrangler TJ automatic won't shift into gear

Is the shifter locked in Park? If so, it may have to do with the interlock mechanism. I've included that portion of my '03 service manual. Maybe you can figure out how to disconnect the system.

    Gateway Buckshot Mudders

Yep, I agree that if you can handle the on-road anomalies of a bias ply tire, they are just plain hard to beat for hard-core off road stuff. That's why I'd take a look at the Interco stuff. Although I've never ran their tires before, plenty of guys swear by them.

Looks like you found 'em. I forgot all about NTW. But the price don't look all that spectacular.
