Changing my gears from 4:11 to 4:88

Physically installing new gears is not the issue but setting them up correctly is. Lots of mechanics claim to be able to do this job but a lot less of them know how to do it correctly. The problem is that by the time you figure out they were not done right the damage has already been done. The...

    TJ windshield glass

It's not DOT approved for street use because emergency personnel cannot smash through it and must cut it if necessary for a vehicle extraction in an accident. I'm not real concerned about this in a TJ. SpeedGlass - Drop-Ins - Jeep - Wrangler - 1996-2006 - Percy's High Performance -...

    Cracked Hardtop

Don't know what the material is for a '79 CJ7, but I'll give you information from my '03 TJ FSM: HARD TOP REPAIR NOTE: The hard top is manufactured from a sheet molded compound (SMC).SMC is constructed using short fiberglass strands usually less than 5.08 cm (2 inches) long. Sheet stock of...

    TJ Roll Cage options

I'm all for DYI projects but if you've never done a cage before and your buddy's experience doesn't include TJ's, I'd look at a pre-fab cage as mentioned in the other posts here. There's a lot of engineering issues that must be addressed in your design work that's hard to visualize, even in a...

    Couple quick questions..

"I see," said the blind man. And if the drywall screws mentioned by jeremy29 don't work, can you tap and rethread the holes for a little larger screw? If not, can the holes be drilled for a heli-coil insert maybe?

    Couple quick questions..

When you say your hardtop is noisy, is it because it's moving on the tub rails? You can install some foam weatheristripping between the tub and top then bolt it down. As for some of the bolts coming loose, that's not good. You need to figure that out whether it's using lock washer, thread...

    Roll cage

The view thing is just a matter of preference. I wouldn't care for it on my DD but hey, that's just me. As for the difference between the two cage kits, I have a custom fabbed cage similar to the sport cage, although it is heavier DOM tubing (they don't say if this cage is DOM or HREW). It...

    Roll cage

Good choice, solid cage. To me, TJ's are narrow enough that a center windshield brace would be more of a visual hindrance rather than needed strength. I've seen photos of a lot of Jeeps that have flopped or rolled and come out fine with just the horizontal windshield and dash bars.

    no start issue

Dan, I'm sure someone will come back with some suggestions to help resolve your problem. Sorry to hear about the flop and resulting damages. However, without trying to be a butt-head here, let me just point out that in a forum where there's no body language or facial expressions, and no...

    Roll cage

Tom, you're asking a question with a lot of answers depending on what you want. What year/kind of Jeep do you have? Do you want a kit that you weld together yourself or do you want something already prefabricated? Weld together or clamp? Tied into the frame or welded to the floor pan? IMHO, I...

    CB running on radio speakers

Thanks for noticing. It's a custom cage fabricated by the guy in the photos (see attached link) with the grinder caught up in his shirt. We used the stock modified and reinforced 'B' pillar and rear legs and built in with DOM tubing with lots of triangulation and gussets. Steve did quite a...

    CB running on radio speakers

It's a lot easier to just plug in an external speaker to the back of the unit. I have mine mounted between the speaker pods on the 'B' pillar of the roll bar where I can hear it loud and clear regardless of conditions. Besides, if you are tying in the speaker output directly to all your car...

    TJ instrument cluster beeping

Keep us posted on what you find, John. Like I said, my problem has eluded me for years.

    TJ instrument cluster beeping

I've lived with an annoyance like this for several years now because I'm too cheap to buy a new instrument cluster. There is a "beeper" wired into the turn signal circuit that is supposed to beep as a reminder to turn off your turn signals if they are left on too long. Also by dropping below...

    TJ Towing Capacity

Usually the reason there is no recommendation is because it is not recommended. Totally vehicle specification dependant, has nothing to do with operator towing experience. Example: While my 2010 Nissan Xterra is specifically excluded, a weight distributing hitch is allowed for Armada...

    TJ Towing Capacity

Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0L towing capacity is 200lbs. tongue weight/2000lb. trailer weight. There is no factory recommendation for using any kind of weight distributing hitch. As indicated in other posts, the weight restriction is not only a matter of engine/powertrain combo but wheelbase as...

need advice for a new exhaust

It's really hard to "give advice" here 'cause sound is so subjective. I hear what I hear, you hear what you hear. I'm running a stock exhaust system but replaced the OEM muffler with a Flowmaster Super 44 Off Road. It's compact (cleared my tummy tucker skid) but kind of heavy since it's...

Need help with color identification for my jeep

On the '09 it was called Sunburst Orange Metallic Clearcoat, V6/DV6, per Colors. Hope this helps.

    Switch Question?

Sometimes confused with a rheostat a potentiometer can still be used as one by simply using the wiper terminal and one of the other terminals, leaving the third terminal unconnected and unused.
