    wonky xj steering

a 3" lift actually can really screw up an XJ's steering. your caster may be off and you should definitely get an alignment (it should be about +6.5 for both sides). its not necessarily a castor problem though... you could just have a loose connection somewhere or may need to adjust your steering...

    throttle body spacer

tb spacer's don't usually provide a noticeable difference. i installed one on my 4.0 XJ and it really didn't do much (it did sorta make a cool whistling noise when you punched the gas though...). i also bought a K&N FIPK... but unfortunately with the way the XJ's hood is you can't install both a...

    yet another XJ question

i would bet you have four 5 1/4" speakers then... double check your front doors before you make a purchase though.

    yet another XJ question

on my XJ (97), all 4 speakers are 5 1/4. i don't know about newer models though... your rears should definitely be 5 1/4, but your fronts may have changed. its not that hard to pop the door panel off to check though. also... some XJ's (mainly the limiteds i think) came with a fancier infinity...

    strange shop diagnosis

well my jeep definitely does not have any sort of vacuum diaphram on the front... so the search continues. anybody want to buy a death-wobbling jeep for about $10k...?

Rhinolined CJ - the whole thing?

if you have the money, go with line-x. i have a friend who owns a line-x shop and the stuff is amazing. i like it much better than rhino... looks and performance. although herculiner is a cheaper option, i definitely would not recommend it. i know some people have had pretty good results with...

    ARB Bull Bar

custom fab jobs tend to be a little rough around the edges sometimes... nothing will match the quality of an ARB.

    strange shop diagnosis

hey TC... i'm not really sure if my tracbar and draglink are lined up how they should be. i'll be sure to look into that next time i'm home though or maybe just call and have my dad check it and see if he can tell. is that something you can just "eyeball" or do you need to make some sort of...

    strange shop diagnosis

true... a badly balanced wheel always makes your ride suck, but it still is not a legitimate cause for DW. and yes, all of your definitions seem to be right on. i usually only get the DW if i'm going over 45-50 mph and hit a pretty good bump. until i put the control arms on, it would...

    strange shop diagnosis

hey TC thanks for the reply... yes i definitely do have death wobble. i mean it shakes like nothing has ever shook before... my tires actually squeel when they come in contact with the pavement sometimes. my question about the steering box was just a side note... i didn't mean for it to sound...

    strange shop diagnosis

bounty, i have a '97 XJ... does that make a difference with the vacuum diaphram? also... i'm pretty sure the tracbar i put on came with new bushings. i know my control arms (which are also upper and lower BDS, the uppers are adjustable) all have new bushings. on a slightly different note, how...

    strange shop diagnosis

so a shop that is looking at my jeep came up with another possible explanation for my ongoing death-wobble: they say it has a vacuum diaphram (?) that may be leaking when i go over a bump - that lets the 4-wheel drive system try to engage - this then causes the u-joints to allow a hop and lead...

    A question of morals

sparky... glad to know you were kidding on most of your posts. i kinda skimmed through a lot of them since there are 9 pages of this mess... so maybe i didn't pick up on the fact that you weren't in fact serious (or playing devil's advocate or whatever you were doing...). interesting thoughts on...

    A question of morals

well i have to say i really enjoyed the ongoing debate between TC and sparky. i'm going to have to side with TC on this one though... although sparky does bring up some good points. i am a biology (pre-med) student in my 3rd year, so a discussion about genetics on a jeep board definitely caught...

Ok a few MORE quirky questions about my new XJ

i think that vacuum line does terminate into the bumper... there is a small vacuum canister (a round plastic ball basically) mounted inside the bumper that the tube inserts into. don't ask me why... i had the same problem with my heater vents as well. mine were never permanently stuck... but...

somehow i'm still posting about DEATH WOBBLE...

so a shop that is looking at my jeep came up with another possible explanation for my ongoing death-wobble: they say it has a vacuum diaphram (?) that may be leaking when i go over a bump that allows the 4-wheel drive system to try and engage - this then causes the u-joints to allow a hop and...

    K&N FIPK kit

i have both a K&N fipk and a performance (flowmaster) exhaust on my jeep. i didn't really observe any notable improvements in gas mileage with either one... although any improvements may have been masked with other aftermarket products that were installed at nearly the same time (oversize...
