not sure on the burning smell and the smoke, but check the plug connectory to the coil, I had the exact same problem with my 96, the connector was loose on one of the pins and with the torque of the engine it loose connection, eventually causing the coil to flake out and die. Replaced my accel...
I agree with bounty hunter 35's are a big tire for an xj. I have an xj with 8'' long arm kit and comfortably fit 33x12.50's with fender trimming and no rubbing at full stuff with wheels turned to full lock. woudn't be able to do it with 35's without limiting my uptravel on my supension and I...
i think you are pretty safe reusing the same amount of shim on the pinion if only doing bearings. there is a standard that all manufactures must follow and variations of .01 are unlikely ion the races. just stick with quality brands such as timken, national,or bca
skyjacker is a well known company, your not getting much but coils are cheaper than leaf springs which contributes some to the low price. i don't see any thing about track bars how ever and your tj has 2 that need to be adressed.
skullfisher is right, you don't need to drop the tank or cut a hole in the floor. regardless of what haynes says the job can be done with it in the jeep. a lifted xj is easier(8'' of lift preferrable) you can literally sit on your but and do it. trust me been there done that x2
xj's do use crush sleeves in the d30's but you don't need to reshim the carrier as long as you reuse or use the same amount of shim when replacing the pinion bearings. and while you are at it you might just as well replace the carrier bearings. a shop will charge between 6 and 8 hours to do the...
KrazyJeeper you say you were stationed in Fort Hood? My brother was there for a while with 4ID. Were you 4ID or 1st Cav? Just curious. Well the mountains will be nice in Washington, the wheelin will but wet and messy, sounds like fun
check your splices that you made and make sure they are good. sounds like you may have a faulty solenoid in the transmission. if the splices are good drop the pan and check the solenoids. to check use a multimeter and ohm the solenoids, they should all ohm out the same,if there is a lot of...
build your own, for about $200's you can build what ever your heart desires, besides it is fun and you can look at your handy work and be happy you didn't shovel out $700-$800's. by the way smittybilt is done, put a fork in it.
how are the tires? are they balanced good? is the tire pressure correct? how is the steering stabilzer? check all of these things first and make sure there is no problem there, it usually is the tires but who know. make sure there is nothing caked up on the inside of the rims as well. I some...
it would be much easier to just take the whole wire harness and computer from the 91 and swap it over to the 89 body, make sure you get the check engine light and so on. heck maybe take the whole dash and what not and put it in the 89 tub.
