The block will work but the sensors are different and you might have to switch over distributors,the Renix control system the 89 has in not compatible

If you have to replace any injectors go with the ones that have 4 spray holes. I got mine from Pic & Pull ( out of a couple of Neons)yours might have a different injector plug

The sensor they're talking about is the one on the firewall just above the valve cover on the divers side ,check the vacuum line from there to the throttle body,and the wires that are plugged into it

It still sounds like a plugged exhaust,my 88 xj exhaust system was plugged it would be ok around town but anything over 30 mph it was a dog .

Be sure to check and clean all grounds. The wiring harness doesn't have good grounds. If you have replaced the crank sensor (they do go out) then check the C101 wiring plug by the brake booster ( I finally had to delete mine ) look up Renix ground refreshing and do it before spending time and...
See what voltage is on the fuel pump leads while starting and keep monitoring the voltage when it stalls

Look at your fuel pump relay ,they go out all the time.
One my 89 it would start and shut off like that ,the relay was bad ,the reason it starts is that the ignition bypasses the relay when starting.
