Ok. I'll try to give you all the info before the question. Mid 70's CJ5 tub. Custom tube frame. Dodge 5.2 v8, NP3500 Trans. Front and rear axles from a 99 Grand Cherokee. The Engine/Trans acme with an NP231 xfer case. I have an NP242 from the 99 Grand Cherokee. Can I mount the 242 to the 3500...

Mines an NV...... The chain is soooooo sloppy it hits the case and the oil pick up. Need a new chain!!!! AND oil pick up. Question: Do the drive gears NEED to be changed or is this just RECOMMENDED?? The gears look like the wear is even. Thanks, fastmopar

I wasn't trying to start a fight here guys..... I have a donated (free) CJ rolling chasis. No engine, trans, Xfer case. I have a Dodge Dakota 5.2, 3500, and np231. I have access to Grand Cherokee Axles and steering gear which puts the drive shafts in the correct positions to match the np231...

I tried this earlier but for some reason the message didn't take. I see a lot of information on swapping in a Ford or Chevy engine. Anybody swap in a mopar 5.2, 5spd, & NV231 Xfer case? Please PM me with any information. Thanks, fastmopar

Thanks for the input. I intend to put a Edelbrock 4bbl manifold and performer 4bbl carb on the engine, so the intake will definitely come off, as will the pan. Need to check the Clutch Trans and Xfer case as well. No sense of droping it in if they need parts. You heard of anyone doing this...

I placed the thread about the CJ5? I have access to a 95 Dakota 4X4 5.2 5spd & transfer case. Is this a good combo to graft into the CJ?? Thanks, Jon

Sorry about no Pics. The Jeep is in Sacramento, CA and I'm in Reno, NV area. But your comments have helped I will get the hood length dimension, and I'll get my son to help with the pics. Any idea where the Vin information might be if the tag has been removed?? Thanks, Jon
