My buddy had similar problems with his 89 after his bottle developed a crack... He replaced it and bled the system as we were told to do but it still tended to run hot. I decided to hunt down the radiator and overflow from a 94 like mine and put the newer stuff in his , then bypass the old...
Shocks, tie rod ends, alignment, etc would not be bad ideas. Mine is approaching 200k and has been totalled twice... No problems with it though and the old thing just won't die so I just keep on driving it

the air box is different because of the vacuum on the pre '90's... after that they don't have all of the vacuum fittings on them, only the ccv and eec hoses

Hey Icy, I have a 92XJ and a friend has an 88XJ... Our wheel wells, front end and fender spacings are all the same... Also both have the 4 litre, though mine is the h.o. It has the same block casting and the sizes are almost matched. You shouldn't have any problems mounting...
