    1986 CJ-7 stock Dana 44

OK, I thought this would be a shot in the dark. I am looking for a either complete rear axle assembly Dana 44 from a 1986 CJ-7 with either 2.73's or 3.54's in it. OR, if somebody just has the axle housing, I would interested in that as well! Must be unmodified. Thank you.

Dreaded "D" in my AMC 20

wm69, welcome to the club! LOL, when I scraped off all of the gunk off the axle boss and saw that "D", my heart sank! Looking to go to 3.54's (I plan on runnin' 32" tires max), but these things don't come cheap. Good luck. You will need a new carrier, looking at about $150 for that alone.

    Gearing opinions

'04 Rubi pro's and con's Speaking of New Mexico, I went to NMSU in Las Cruces for a couple of years. I miss the food down there! But west of El Paso over by Sunland Park there is this incredible barbecue restaurant, and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. Man that was good...

    Gearing opinions

Get a load of this... So I called a local place to get an estimate to replace my stock 2.73's to 3.54's, and they told me $1600! $1600! They said that I needed to get a new carrier for the AMC 20, but still, $1600 is way too much in my opinion.

am i blind? differential code on amc 20..where?

You know, after reading a bunch of stuff on the internet, I just assumed I had 3.73's. Of course, what happens when one assumes? Exactly. So, when I finally looked at the service manual, I saw these codes. And sonofa... Well, not trying to change the reason for the post, but if I were to run...

am i blind? differential code on amc 20..where?

Yes, the ratios have to be the same. I was really hoping to find a single H (3.73) but instead have 2.73's. My crawl ratio is a whopping 27:1! Woo- oh... wait, no.

am i blind? differential code on amc 20..where?

What a coincidence! I just looked at mine a couple of days ago. It is to the right side of the diff facing out. It is on the axle boss right before you get to the shaft. I had to use degreaser and a scraper to expose it. I hope you don't find a single "D" like I did! :( Good luck!

    CJ7 Horn fix

Thanks for the reply, I got a steering wheel puller yesterday and got it all fixed. I didn't have any problems getting the steering wheel off! Guess I got lucky. Now my horn works, and I am gonna be a beepin' fool!

    CJ7 Horn fix

OK, so I replaced the horn and the spring plate, but now I have to replace the horn contact. It appears I have to pull the steering wheel off. Is this correct? If not, then what do I need to do. Thank you in advance.

    CJ7 Horn fix

That's awesome that you did the horn parts write-up! Mine doesn't work, and this couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you!

Body mount and engine mount question.

Thank you all for the responses. Bounty Hunter, are you talking about mechanical vibrations transmitting into the frame? What would be the extent of the vibrations?

Body mount and engine mount question.

I was looking at my body mounts yesterday and they are shot! So, should I go with rubber or polyurethane? My main concern is the overall stiffness, and the accompanying chiropractor bills. Also, which should I use for the engine mounts?

Is the Weber 32/36 DGEV the best.

Well, I thought I would just jump into the foray and offer my $0.02. Being a newbie to CJ's (I had a '72 Waggy), and a complete newbie to auto repair, I must say the Weber 38 went right on and was very easy for me to adjust. I had gone through all the vacuum hoses when I first bought the Jeep...

vacuum lines off of valve cover

I've seen the type of filter that jay is talking about. In fact, on a write-up of a Weber install, one guy uses that breather filter instead of running the PCV air-in line to the filter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those are used in some import vehicles? Anyways, filtered air should...

vacuum lines off of valve cover

Hi, when I first got my '85 CJ I had to go through and replace about 90% of the vacuum hoses, and needless to say, it was a pain-in-the-ass! Here is a vacuum hose diagram. Follow this and it will help you out. The front hose does run to the carb, which is the PCV air out. The back hose should...
